E.volve Newsletter September 2010
September
at The Ecology Center is about celebration. In less than two weeks, 200
of our closest friends will gather for a communal celebration of local
food – Green Feast. As we’ve been working hard on preparing for this event for over 6-months, we’re looking forward to the feast.
Last Friday August 27th, we launched our year-long exhibition called Splash! How Good Water Works. Thank you to Hurley, Zago, Boeing, Andrew Sieger, Gerard Basil and the entire team that brought this initiative to life.
While the world’s poorest survive on less than five gallons a day, we
continue to feed The Juggernaut monster. A daily water footprint of 950
gallons is considered a sustainable global standard, which means we all
have a lot of work to do.
Visit the exhibition for 10 simple ways to do your part in defeating the Juggernaut. Open Saturday – Sunday, 11:00 – 5:00 pm.

Grow your own fruits and veggies or buy seasonal, organic food from your local farmer’s market. GALLONS SAVED: 150 daily
Aside
from the water saved in reduced transportation and storage, locally
grown, seasonal foods require fewer pesticides and synthetic fertilizers
that can pollute our water supply and beef up the Juggernaut. When you
buy organic or grow your own edibles, you can avoid pesticides entirely.
With a subscription to South Coast Farm’s CSA or potted herbs and
raised veggie boxes at home, you can save up to 150 gallons every day.
